CANBERRA, Australia (Interstat) — The top of the Australia NBL women’s standings is crowded entering Sunday’s clash between the Hornsby and Centre of Excellence, two teams tied at 7-3.

The game is scheduled for 2 p.m. local time at the venue in Canberra.

Hornsby enters on a high after a 95-83 victory Saturday over the Canberra Nationals. Forward AyAnna Bey posted 19 points, 11 rebounds and one block in 28 minutes, continuing a dominant stretch. In her previous four games, Bey recorded double-doubles in two of them, including a 22-point, 12-rebound effort May 10 against Inner West. She also tallied eight points and five rebounds against Penrith on May 9 and 10 points and six rebounds against the Sydney Comets on May 2.

Centre of Excellence is coming off a 92-66 loss Saturday at Northern Suburbs, dropping its second game in three outings. Guard Isabel Smith scored 22 points and grabbed five rebounds in 30 minutes for Centre of Excellence in that defeat. Smith has been the team’s most consistent scorer, reaching at least 16 points in four of her past six games. She poured in 24 points with six assists on May 2 against Illawarra and recorded 16 points and four rebounds on May 16 against Hills.

The matchup features two of the league’s most productive rosters. Hornsby has won six of its past seven games, with the only blemish a 101-73 loss at Northern Suburbs on May 10. Centre of Excellence has won five of its past seven but has been prone to sporadic offensive struggles, scoring 67 and 66 points in its two losses during that span.

Hornsby’s depth was on display Saturday. Guard Ruby Perkins dished seven assists to go with 20 points, and guard Jessie May Hall added 17 points and seven rebounds. Centre of Excellence received 13 points from Olivia Olechnowicz and 12 from Reece Anticevic in the loss to Northern Suburbs.

Hornsby holds a 2-3 record on the road this season. Centre of Excellence is 4-1 at home.

The winner will hold sole possession of first place in the standings. Centre of Excellence next plays Saturday against Newcastle. Hornsby’s next game is May 31 against Canberra Nationals.
