Shanxi vs. Wuhan
Preview: Shanxi Looks to Continue Dominance Against Wuhan in Women’s Basketball Clash
WUHAN, China (Interstat) — The Shanxi women’s professional basketball team, riding a wave of dominant form, visits the Wuhan team on Monday in a matchup that appears heavily tilted toward the league leaders.
Shanxi (19-4) brings the league’s best record into Wuhan for a quick rematch after dismantling the same opponent just four days earlier. On Thursday, Shanxi routed Wuhan 93-58 behind a monstrous performance from forward Shakira Austin, who posted 15 points and 21 rebounds. Center Kalani Brown led all scorers with 31 points in that contest.
The visiting squad has won 10 of its last 11 games, with its only loss in that span a narrow 79-77 defeat to Wuhan back on Dec. 2, 2025. In the three head-to-head meetings this season, Shanxi holds a 2-1 advantage, with both victories coming by margins of 30 or more points.
Austin remains the focal point for Shanxi. Her recent double-double prowess, including the 21-rebound effort against Wuhan, anchors a high-scoring attack. The team has surpassed 90 points in seven of its last ten outings.
Wuhan (10-13), sitting below .500, seeks a crucial home victory to stabilize its season. Guard Yihua Li, who scored 11 points in the recent loss, is a key player for the hosts. The team has shown flashes, including a win over Zhejiang on Feb. 1 and a December victory over Shanxi, but has struggled for consistency.
The home court at Wuhan will need to provide a significant boost. In the Jan. 3 meeting there, Shanxi secured an 86-56 victory.
Monday’s game, organized by the China in China, tips off a critical final stretch for both clubs. Shanxi aims to solidify its top seeding, while Wuhan desperately needs a signature win to improve its playoff positioning. The matchup will be broadcast live from Wuhan, China.
