Sichuan vs. Shanghai

Preview: Sichuan Faces Shanghai in Women’s Basketball Rematch

SHANGHAI (Interstat) — The Sichuan women’s professional basketball team, boasting the league’s best record, visits the Shanghai squad on Monday in a quick rematch with playoff implications.

The game, organized by the China Basketball Association, tips off at 7:35 p.m. local time at a venue in Shanghai.

Sichuan (18-5) arrives with commanding momentum, having dominated Shanghai 105-76 just three days prior on March 27. That victory extended Sichuan’s winning streak to three games and continued their season-long dominance over Shanghai, whom they have defeated in all three meetings this season.

A primary focus will be the marquee post matchup between Sichuan’s Elizabeth Cambage and Shanghai’s Ruthy Hebard. Cambage was efficient in Friday’s win, recording a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds in just 24 minutes. Hebard, however, was a lone bright spot for Shanghai in the loss, pouring in a game-high 27 points alongside 10 rebounds in 35 minutes. Containing Hebard will be a key defensive objective for Sichuan.

Sicharan’s balance makes them formidable. In the last matchup, Natasha Howard added 16 points and seven rebounds, while guard Li Yuan contributed 11 points and five assists. Their depth has propelled them to wins in 10 of their last 12 contests.

Shanghai (13-10) seeks to halt a two-game skid and improve its standing. Beyond Hebard, production from Yutong Liu (16 points on Friday) and guard Xianglin Wu will be critical. The team has shown resilience at home this season but must find an answer for Sichuan’s offensive firepower, having allowed an average of 103 points to them in their three defeats.

Historically, this series has been one-sided recently. Sichuan’s average margin of victory in the three games this season is 24 points, including a 105-82 win in January and an 81-77 victory in Shanghai last December.

Monday’s contest offers Shanghai a chance for immediate redemption and to disrupt the league leaders’ rhythm, while Sichuan aims to solidify its top seeding and complete a decisive regular-season sweep.
