Xinjiang vs. Shandong
PENGLAI, China (Interstat) — A critical late-season clash with playoff implications tips off Monday when the Xinjiang women’s basketball team visits Shandong in a China-based professional league matchup.
The game, scheduled for March 30, 2026, at Penglai Arena, features two teams jockeying for position in the standings. Xinjiang (15-8) holds a narrow edge over Shandong (14-9), making this a pivotal contest for postseason seeding.
The visiting Flying Tigers enter with momentum, having defeated this same Shandong squad 91-78 just three days prior on March 27. In that victory, Xinjiang point guard Wu Tongtong delivered a masterclass, dishing 13 assists and scoring 21 points in 35 minutes. Her backcourt command, alongside the frontcourt presence of Zitina Aokuso (13 points, 11 rebounds) and Cayla George (13 points, 8 rebounds), powered the win.
Shandong, however, returns home seeking immediate redemption and aims to snap a two-game head-to-head losing streak against Xinjiang this season. The Eagles fell 86-73 in the previous home meeting on Jan. 18. Forward Junwei Cao, who scored 15 points with 6 rebounds in Friday’s loss, will be central to Shandong’s rebound effort. She will rely on support from Cheyenne Parker Tyus, who poured in 21 points in the last outing.
Recent form favors Xinjiang, which has won three straight and seven of its last ten games. Shandong has been inconsistent, alternating wins and losses in its last five contests. The home court in Penglai could provide a necessary boost for the Eagles, who have shown a capacity for strong performances, including an 88-72 victory over Beijing on Jan. 30.
The season series narrative is clear: Xinjiang has dominated the recent chapters. Including last season’s result from Dec. 16, 2025, Xinjiang has won the last three meetings between the clubs by an average margin of 9.3 points.
Monday’s contest will likely hinge on whether Wu Tongtong can again orchestrate the Xinjiang offense against a pressured Shandong defense, and if Junwei Cao can inspire a more balanced and resilient response from the Eagles on their home floor. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. local time.
