Arad vs. Rapid
Preview: Arad Looks to Continue Hot Streak Against Rapid in Key Romanian Women’s Basketball Clash
BUCHAREST, Romania (Interstat) — A showdown between two of the top teams in Romanian women’s professional basketball is set for Monday when the surging Arad visits Rapid.
The matchup pits Arad (10-2), which boasts the league’s best winning percentage, against a seasoned Rapid squad (13-7) looking to protect its home court and avenge an early-season loss.
Arad enters on a dominant run, winning its last four games by an average margin of 43.5 points, including an 80-65 victory over Municipal on Jan. 12. Its only loss since November came on the road against Sepsi SIC on Jan. 4.
The visitor’s success is fueled by forward TaiSheka Porchia, who is coming off a historic 22-point, 20-rebound performance against Municipal. In her last two games, Porchia has averaged 24 points and 15 rebounds. Guard Juliunn Redmond, who scored 27 points with eight assists in the same game, provides a potent backcourt complement.
Rapid has won three consecutive games, most recently a 74-50 road win at Municipal on Jan. 19. The team is led by guard Dragana Zivkovic, who scored 20 points in that victory and erupted for 25 points and 10 rebounds in a Jan. 4 win over CSUP Timisoara. Her versatility as a scorer and facilitator will be key for the home side.
The teams’ most recent meeting was a tightly contested affair on Dec. 3, which Arad won 76-73 at home. That result will likely be on the minds of both clubs as they battle for positioning.
For Arad, the game represents a chance to solidify its elite status against a team with more games played. For Rapid, it’s an opportunity to hand Arad only its third loss and prove its championship mettle.
Tip-off is scheduled for Monday evening at Rapid’s arena in Bucharest.
