Long Beach vs Mount San Jacinto
SAN JACINTO, Calif. (Interstat) — Mount San Jacinto will host Long Beach in a women’s junior college basketball game Friday at the San Jacinto Lion’s Club Tip-Off Classic. The Eagles (1-0) are the home team, while the Vikings (0-4) are the visiting team.
Mount San Jacinto enters after a 70-67 victory over Antelope Valley in its most recent game. Sierra Maxwell is the player to watch for the Eagles after a dominant performance in that win. Maxwell played all 40 minutes and finished with 27 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 block. Kiara Williams added 16 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists, and Jamiyah Pearson contributed 11 points, 11 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 blocks for Mount San Jacinto. In the opener, Maxwell was Mount San Jacinto’s leading scorer and rebounder, and Williams and Pearson gave the Eagles additional double-digit scoring. The Eagles will look to build on that opening win, protect their home court in the tournament setting and seek a 2-0 start. Mount San Jacinto has not played another game this season.
Long Beach is still seeking its first victory of the season. The Vikings most recently fell 68-33 at Palomar. Hannah Fuentes led Long Beach in that game with 16 points and 2 rebounds while playing 29 minutes. Robyn Raqhiel added 4 points and 5 rebounds, and Madisyn Smith had 6 points and 8 rebounds. Long Beach has struggled offensively during the opening stretch, scoring 33, 36, 46 and 41 points in its four games. Long Beach dropped a 69-41 home decision to Merritt, fell 72-46 at Antelope Valley and lost 100-36 at home to Laney before the Palomar loss. The Vikings are trying to avoid an 0-5 start.
Fuentes has been Long Beach’s most consistent offensive threat during the early season. She scored 13 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 20 minutes against Merritt, posted 12 points and 5 rebounds in 31 minutes against Antelope Valley, and added 8 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists in 25 minutes against Laney. Fuentes has reached double figures in three of Long Beach’s four games. The Vikings will need Fuentes to carry a heavy workload against a Mount San Jacinto team that has already shown the ability to close out a tight game. Mount San Jacinto will rely on Maxwell’s scoring and rebounding presence inside, while Williams and Pearson provide complementary production. The Vikings’ offense will need more balanced production around Fuentes to keep pace.
Interstat’s game simulator projects Mount San Jacinto to win 85-58. Interstat’s ELO system gives the Eagles a 94.8 percent probability of victory.
