San Francisco vs San Mateo
SAN MATEO, Calif. (Interstat) — A rematch of a lopsided January meeting highlights the California community college women’s basketball slate Wednesday as the San Mateo Bulldogs host the San Francisco Rams.
The Rams (20-5), one of the region’s top teams, handed the Bulldogs a 74-54 defeat just three weeks ago on Jan. 28. San Francisco enters on a strong run, having won four of its last five games, including an 82-53 rout of Chabot last Friday. The Bulldogs (12-12), meanwhile, have found momentum of their own, riding a five-game winning streak since that loss to the Rams.
San Francisco’s success is anchored by standout forward Jessie Chau. She dominated in the recent win over Chabot, posting 21 points and 12 rebounds. Over her last four games, Chau is averaging 13 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest. She is complemented by a deep roster that saw June Lumumba score 14 points and Patriceia Walsh dish out seven assists in the same game.
San Mateo will counter with guard Ravyn Martin, a key player during its current win streak. The Bulldogs’ resurgence has been marked by improved defense, holding opponents to an average of 48.4 points during the five-game stretch. Their last outing was a 62-55 victory over Skyline.
Despite the stark contrast in overall records, Interstat’s game simulator projects a nail-biter, forecasting a 100-100 draw. The Bulldogs will aim to leverage home court and their recent form to close the gap, while the Rams look to reaffirm their dominance in the conference race.
Wednesday’s winner gains crucial momentum heading into the final stretch of the regular season. San Francisco visits Foothill on Friday, while San Mateo hosts Gavilan.
