Canyons vs West Los Angeles
Preview: Canyons Cougars at West Los Angeles Wildcats
WEST LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking to end difficult stretches will meet Saturday when the Canyons Cougars visit the West Los Angeles Wildcats in a California community college women’s basketball matchup.
The game pits a struggling Canyons squad (7-17) against a West Los Angeles team (0-25) still in pursuit of its first victory of the season. Despite their records, their previous meeting this season was a tightly contested affair, with Canyons escaping with a 59-55 win at home on Jan. 21.
Canyons enters on a four-game losing streak, most recently suffering an 82-43 defeat to Los Angeles Valley on Wednesday. The Cougars will look to forward Kathy Artiga to provide a spark. Artiga is coming off a 13-point, 9-rebound performance in 39 minutes in that loss.
West Los Angeles, meanwhile, is looking to snap a 25-game skid dating back to last season. The Wildcats fell 80-48 at Antelope Valley on Wednesday. Guard Kyana Davis has been a consistent contributor for the Wildcats, posting 14 points, five rebounds and four assists in a full 40 minutes in that contest.
The Wildcats have shown occasional offensive capability, scoring 79 points in a narrow loss to Citrus on Jan. 24. However, defensive consistency has been a season-long challenge.
For Canyons, the matchup represents a critical opportunity to halt its slide and sweep the season series. Beyond Artiga, Gabriella Valles (10 points, 4 rebounds vs. L.A. Valley) will be counted on for production.
The Wildcats’ hopes likely rest on Davis and forward Kennedy Pullard, who had 13 points and nine rebounds against Antelope Valley, finding sustained success against a Canyons defense that has allowed an average of 71 points per game during its losing streak.
Tip-off is set for Saturday, Feb. 14, 2026.
