Victor Valley vs Copper Mountain

Preview: Victor Valley Rams at Copper Mountain Fighting Cacti

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (Interstat) — A top-tier California women’s junior college basketball clash is set for Wednesday when the No. 2-ranked Copper Mountain Fighting Cacti host the Victor Valley Rams.

Copper Mountain (20-2), whose only losses this season came in double-overtime to Mount San Jacinto and on the road to that same team in late January, has been dominant. They are riding a three-game winning streak, including a 109-31 rout of Palo Verde last Saturday. The Fighting Cacti boast a high-powered offense, having scored 100 or more points in six games this season.

Victor Valley (17-7) seeks to rebound from a 71-58 home loss to Chaffey this past Saturday. The Rams had won four of their previous five, with the lone loss in that stretch a one-point defeat to Mount San Jacinto. Their season includes an overtime win at Chaffey in early January.

The teams met just over a month ago, on Jan. 10 in Victor Valley, with Copper Mountain securing a decisive 61-43 victory.

A key matchup will feature two of the state’s premier forwards. Victor Valley’s Myla Gibson has been a force, recording double-doubles in at least five consecutive games. In a win over Barstow on Feb. 4, she posted 13 points and 19 rebounds in just one minute of play, according to available statistics.

Copper Mountain counters with Gia McFadden, who is coming off a 31-point, 13-rebound, 6-assist performance in a win over Desert on Jan. 24. She averages a double-double and is a focal point of the Fighting Cacti’s attack.

Despite Copper Mountain’s superior record and a convincing head-to-head win earlier this season, the Interstat game simulator projects a narrow, high-scoring affair with a final score of Copper Mountain 100, Victor Valley 100.

The game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. PST tipoff at Copper Mountain College.
