San Mateo vs Monterey Peninsula
MONTEREY, Calif. (Interstat) — A struggling Monterey Peninsula women’s basketball team will seek its first win of the season when it hosts San Mateo in a California community college matchup Friday night.
The Lobos (0-18) are reeling from a 90-41 road loss to Mission on Tuesday, their 15th consecutive defeat by double digits. Monterey Peninsula has not scored more than 50 points in a game this season and is allowing an average of 68.2 points per contest.
They face a San Mateo Bulldogs squad (8-12) looking to rebound from a 74-54 loss at San Francisco on Jan. 28. The Bulldogs had won three of their previous four games prior to that defeat, including conference victories over Hartnell, Mission and Chabot.
A player to watch for San Mateo is Ravyn Martin, who was among the team’s most productive players in the loss to San Francisco. The Bulldogs have shown a capacity for strong defensive performances, holding four opponents under 55 points during their recent stretch.
This game opens a critical second half of conference play for both teams. San Mateo will look to solidify its position in the standings, while the Lobos aim to find any momentum in a season defined by frustration. The Bulldogs won the first meeting this season, 67-59, on Jan. 23 in San Mateo.
Following this contest, Monterey Peninsula travels to San Jose on Feb. 11, while San Mateo hosts Chabot on the same date.
Tip-off is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 6, 2026.
