Albany Great Danes at Northeastern Huskies

BOSTON (Interstat) — Albany and Northeastern will open their women’s NCAA Division I basketball seasons Monday at Matthews Arena, with both teams looking for a stronger start after ending last season on losing notes. The Great Danes are the visiting team and enter at 0-0. The Huskies are the home team and also stand at 0-0. The game marks the first appearance of the season for both programs and offers an early look at how each team will shape its rotation.

Albany’s most recent result was a 55-40 loss at Vermont in its final game of last season. Northeastern’s last game was a 51-50 home loss to UNC Wilmington. Those results closed the previous campaign for both programs and set up a new beginning in Boston. Albany will make the trip to Boston for the opener, while Northeastern will stay home for its first contest.

The matchup gives Albany an early road test against a Northeastern side that will play its opener on its home floor. The Great Danes will look to establish their rotation in a season opener, while the Huskies will try to use the home setting in their first game. Both teams are beginning the season without a current win or loss, making the opener the first measuring point of the schedule. The opener also provides an early test of depth and execution for two teams beginning a new campaign.

Albany’s upcoming slate includes a home game against Manhattan, a trip to Mount Saint Mary’s, visits to Mississippi and Rutgers, and a home matchup with Bucknell. The Great Danes also are scheduled to face Stonehill, Siena, Colgate, Hofstra and South Carolina as the nonconference schedule develops.

Northeastern’s next stretch includes trips to Sacred Heart and Providence, a home game against Bryant and a visit to Boston College. The Huskies also are set to face New Haven, Yale, Massachusetts-Lowell, Hofstra, Colorado Christian and Drexel as the schedule moves deeper into the season.

Matthews Arena will host the opener as Albany looks to begin the year on the road and Northeastern tries to protect its home court. The game is the first of the season for both teams, with each program seeking an early result before the schedule turns to a broader run of nonconference and conference matchups. Both teams will have an opportunity to set an early tone before a demanding stretch of games arrives.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a final score of Albany 53, Northeastern 51. Interstat’s ELO system projects Albany with a 58.1 percent probability to win.
