Maryland Terrapins vs. South Carolina Gamecocks
PARIS (Interstat) — Maryland and South Carolina will meet Monday in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball game at Paris, France, as part of the WBB Oui Play event. South Carolina is the designated home team, and Maryland is the visiting team. Both programs enter the game with a current record of 0-0.
Maryland, known as the Terrapins, will begin the season after its most recent result, a 74-66 loss at North Carolina. South Carolina, the Gamecocks, also is coming off a loss after falling 79-51 at UCLA in its most recent outing. The international matchup gives both teams an early opportunity to establish rhythm before their schedules continue in the United States. The opening game follows offseason preparation for both programs and marks the start of a long schedule that will stretch through the coming weeks.
The Terrapins’ upcoming slate includes home games against George Mason, Columbia, Coppin State, Morgan State and Monmouth. Maryland also is scheduled to visit Towson, host Ball State, play Connecticut in Brooklyn, host Lehigh and host Michigan. Those games will follow the opener in Paris and give Maryland a mix of home dates and travel early in the season.
South Carolina’s early schedule includes a game against North Carolina in Charlotte, a trip to Clemson, a game against Southern California in Greenville and a home contest against Florida Gulf Coast. The Gamecocks also are set to visit Providence, play Connecticut in Uncasville, host Tennessee State, travel to Duke, host Oklahoma State and host Wofford. The opening stretch will test South Carolina with opponents from several conferences and regions.
The game in Paris brings together two programs with strong national profiles and adds an international setting to the opening portion of the women’s college basketball calendar. South Carolina will be listed as the home team, while Maryland will be the visitor. Early execution, rebounding and ball control could be important in a season opener played far from both campuses. Maryland and South Carolina will both be eager to set a tone in the opener, with each team looking to build confidence before conference play and the heart of the nonconference schedule.
Maryland will seek to build momentum before a run that includes several home games and a trip to Connecticut. South Carolina will aim to do the same before a demanding stretch that features road games and high-profile matchups. Both teams enter without a win or a loss on the current record, making the Paris game their first official result of the season.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a final score of South Carolina 76, Maryland 68.
