La Salle Explorers at Rutgers Scarlet Knights
PISCATAWAY (Interstat) — La Salle will visit Rutgers for a women’s NCAA Division I basketball game on Wednesday at Louis Brown Center in Piscataway, N.J. The Explorers enter with a 0-0 record, while the Scarlet Knights are 1-0 after opening their season with a home win over Long Island. The game will give La Salle its first test of the new campaign and give Rutgers a chance to build on a strong opening performance.
Rutgers received balanced production in that 83-52 victory from several key contributors. Mia Pauldo, a guard, is the player to watch for the Scarlet Knights after finishing with 21 points, seven rebounds and five assists in 24 minutes. Imani Lester, a center, added 10 points and four rebounds in 18 minutes, and Tara Daye, a guard, contributed eight points, five rebounds and three assists in 26 minutes. The Scarlet Knights will look to carry that collective effort into their second game of the season.
Pauldo’s recent performance has given Rutgers a strong early offensive anchor. In the Scarlet Knights’ win over Long Island, she reached 21 points while adding seven rebounds and five assists in 24 minutes. Rutgers will need similar production at home as it prepares for La Salle’s first game of the season.
La Salle opens its season with the trip to Piscataway. The Explorers’ most recent result was a 74-63 loss at Army, when La Salle scored 63 points. La Salle will be seeking a stronger start in its first game of the new campaign and will face a Rutgers team coming off a convincing home victory over Long Island.
The matchup at Louis Brown Center will feature two programs at different points in their early schedules. Rutgers has already had one game to establish rhythm, while La Salle will be making its season debut. The Scarlet Knights’ inside and perimeter production against Long Island could test the Explorers, who are looking to set a tone on the road. La Salle will rely on a disciplined approach in its opener, while Rutgers will try to use its early-game experience to control the pace at home.
La Salle will return home for its next game against Loyola Maryland, then will have a stretch that includes Virginia Tech, Temple, Rowan, American, Villanova, George Mason, Iona, Maryland-Eastern Shore and UC San Diego. Rutgers’ upcoming slate includes Indiana State, Monmouth, Albany, Maryland-Eastern Shore, Delaware State, Princeton, South Dakota State, Georgetown, Saint Peter’s and Ohio State.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a final score of La Salle 62, Rutgers 56.
