High Point at Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — Two of the nation’s hottest teams will collide Saturday when the seed High Point Panthers visit the seed Vanderbilt Commodores in a first-round NCAA women’s basketball tournament game at Memorial Gymnasium.

Tipoff is set for March 21, 2026, in a matchup featuring teams with nearly identical stellar records. High Point (27-5) earned its berth by winning the Big South Conference tournament, while Vanderbilt (27-4), a powerhouse from the Southeastern Conference, secured an at-large bid.

The game pits High Point’s momentum against Vanderbilt’s pedigree and home-court advantage. The Panthers have won four of their last five, including a 71-67 victory over Radford on March 8 to clinch their conference’s automatic bid. Vanderbilt, meanwhile, enters having won three of its last four, with its only recent blemish an 89-78 loss to Mississippi on March 6.

A key matchup will be at guard between High Point’s dynamic Aaliyah Collins and Vanderbilt’s playmaking Aubrey Galvan. Collins is coming off a 21-point, 6-assist performance in the conference final and has averaged 14.6 points and 5.4 assists over her last five games. Galvan has been a consistent force for the Commodores, scoring 20 or more points in two of her last four outings, including a 24-point effort in a road win at Tennessee.

Vanderbilt’s offense, which averages over 80 points per game, will test a High Point defense that has held opponents to 60 points or fewer in three of its last five contests. The Commodores boast multiple weapons, as evidenced by Mikayla Blakes’ 24-point outing in the loss to Mississippi.

Despite High Point’s impressive record, Vanderbilt has been installed as a heavy pregame favorite, with a spread of -36.5 points. The over/under total is set at 147.

The Panthers will rely on Collins and forward Anna Hager, who added 18 points in the title game, to handle the pressure of the tournament stage and Vanderbilt’s relentless SEC-style play. The Commodores counter with Galvan’s backcourt leadership and the interior presence of Sacha Washington.

This contest marks the first meeting between the programs. The winner will advance to the second round of the tournament on Monday.
