Hofstra vs. Towson

Hofstra, Towson Set for Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Clash

WASHINGTON (Interstat) — The Towson Tigers will look to solidify their winning season when they host the Hofstra Pride in a Colonial Athletic Association women’s basketball game Thursday at CareFirst Arena.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EDT.

The Tigers (17-13) enter the regular-season finale having won three of their last four, including a 74-58 victory over Drexel on Saturday. They are led by standout guard India Johnston, who is coming off a 30-point performance in that win. Johnston has been on a scoring tear, averaging 23.4 points over her last seven games.

Towson swept the season series against Hofstra last month, winning both meetings by a combined four points. The Tigers edged the Pride 58-55 on Jan. 23 in Towson, Maryland, after a 47-46 road win on Jan. 9.

The visiting Pride (8-21) snapped a two-game skid with a 62-46 road win at Northeastern on Saturday. Guard Alarice Gooden, a player to watch for Hofstra, scored 11 points in that victory. Over her last seven contests, Gooden is averaging 8.0 points and 2.1 assists per game.

Hofstra’s season has been marked by narrow defeats, with five of its conference losses coming by six points or fewer, including the two close calls against Towson.

The Tigers have found success behind the arc recently, hitting 10 or more 3-pointers in three of their last five games. Johnston’s scoring prowess will be a primary focus for a Hofstra defense that allows an average of 62.1 points per game.

Thursday’s contest will be the final tune-up for both teams before the CAA tournament begins next week.
