(Interstat) — In a defensive struggle defined by a decisive third-quarter surge, the Winthrop Eagles avenged two regular-season losses to Gardner-Webb with a 64-52 victory in a Big South Conference women’s basketball tournament quarterfinal on Thursday afternoon at the ETSU Athletic Center. The Eagles, who entered the postseason as the seed, improved to 15-16 and advanced to the semifinal round.
