Southeast Missouri State Redhawks vs. Morehead State Eagles
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Interstat) — A surging Southeast Missouri State squad will look to avenge two regular-season losses when it faces Morehead State in an Ohio Valley Conference women’s basketball tournament matchup Thursday at Ford Center.
The eighth-seeded Redhawks (13-17) enter on a four-game winning streak, including a 68-65 victory at Arkansas-Little Rock on Wednesday. They will face the fifth-seeded Eagles (18-13), who last played a 73-68 loss at Arkansas-Little Rock on Feb. 26.
Morehead State won both regular-season meetings, 65-59 at home on Jan. 10 and 71-57 at Southeast Missouri State on Feb. 5.
The Redhawks are powered by guard Carmen Taylor, who averaged 15.1 points during the team’s recent stretch. She scored 22 points in a win over Tennessee Tech on Feb. 28 and 23 in a loss to Lindenwood on Feb. 14. Her team’s late-season turnaround has been fueled by defense, holding three of its last four opponents under 65 points.
The Eagles counter with guard Laura Toffali, who is coming off a 32-point performance in the loss to Little Rock. She was held to four points in a Feb. 12 loss to Tennessee Tech but scored 15 in the Feb. 24 win over Southern Indiana. In the Feb. 5 win over Southeast Missouri, Toffali had 11 points in 27 minutes.
The winner will advance to the OVC tournament semifinals on Friday. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. EST tip-off.
