Missouri vs. Alabama

GREENVILLE, S.C. (Interstat) — The seed Alabama women’s basketball team opens its postseason Wednesday against seed Missouri in the second round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament at Bon Secours Wellness Arena.

The Crimson Tide (21-9) enter the tournament having lost three of its last four, including a 72-65 defeat to Texas on Sunday. Alabama, which defeated Missouri 74-63 in Columbia on Jan. 12, is heavily favored. Interstat’s ELO system projects Alabama with an 88.6% probability to win.

Guard Jessica Timmons has been a bright spot for Alabama, averaging 19.3 points over her last three games. She scored 34 points in a road win at Florida on Feb. 22.

Missouri (16-15) limps into Greenville on a five-game losing streak, most recently falling 84-78 to Oklahoma on Sunday. The Tigers’ last win came at Arkansas on Feb. 5. Their defense has been a major concern, allowing an average of 92.2 points during the skid.

The Tigers will rely on the hot hand of guard Shannon Dowell, who is coming off a career-high 33-point performance against Oklahoma. Over her last seven games, Dowell is averaging 16.1 points.

Alabama’s size, led by forward Essence Cody, could pose problems for a Missouri team that was outrebounded by 15 in the January meeting. The Crimson Tide also forced 18 Tiger turnovers in that contest.

The winner advances to face seed South Carolina in the quarterfinals on Thursday. For Missouri, a victory is likely essential to keep any postseason hopes alive. Alabama seeks to solidify its NCAA Tournament resume and build momentum for a deeper conference run.

Tipoff is scheduled for approximately 25 minutes after the conclusion of the day’s first game, which begins at noon EST.
