Wright State at Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (Interstat) — The Youngstown State Penguins, riding a wave of momentum, will host the struggling Wright State Raiders in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball game Wednesday night.

Youngstown State (22-8) enters the contest having won seven of its last eight games, including a 72-60 victory over Detroit on Feb. 25. The Penguins boast one of the conference’s most dominant players in Sophia Gregory, who is coming off a 20-point, 4-block performance and a historic 37-point, 19-rebound outing against Fort Wayne on Feb. 21.

Wright State (10-21) seeks to halt a three-game skid, most recently a 50-62 loss at Robert Morris on Feb. 28. The Raiders will lean on guard Ellie Magestro-Kennedy, who scored a team-high 15 points in that defeat and has averaged 11.1 points over her last nine contests.

The Penguins have dominated the recent series, winning the last two meetings. They defeated the Raiders 78-67 in overtime on Jan. 14 in Dayton, and earned a 65-46 home win on Dec. 16. Youngstown State’s defense held Wright State to an average of 56.5 points in those victories.

Youngstown State’s balanced attack, featuring Gregory alongside Sarah Baker (18 points vs. Detroit) and Paulina Hernandez, will test a Wright State defense that has allowed 68.3 points per game during its current losing streak. The Raiders’ offense, beyond Magestro-Kennedy, will need contributions from Olivia Brown and Claire Henson to keep pace.

Tipoff is set for Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at the Beeghly Center. The Penguins aim to solidify their standing heading into the conference tournament, while the Raiders look to play spoiler and build positive momentum to end their season.
