Texas State at Northern Illinois
DEKALB, Ill. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to halt recent slides will meet Saturday when the Texas State Bobcats visit the Northern Illinois Huskies in a nonconference women’s basketball matchup.
Texas State (10-12) enters having lost two of its last three, including a 61-57 home loss to Georgia Southern on Wednesday. The Bobcats have been led by guard Saniya Burks, who scored 17 points in that defeat. Over her last seven games, Burks is averaging 13.7 points, including a 27-point performance in a loss to Troy on Jan. 17.
Northern Illinois (4-18) seeks to end a four-game losing streak, most recently an 83-48 road defeat at Ball State on Wednesday. Guard Nevaeh Wingate has been a consistent contributor for the Huskies, averaging 9.8 points and 3.4 assists over her last eight contests. Her season highlight was a 15-point effort at Toledo on Jan. 14.
While both teams have struggled for wins, the Bobcats have shown more offensive capability, averaging 60.2 points per game compared to the Huskies’ 56.8. Texas State also holds a defensive edge, allowing 64.2 points per game to Northern Illinois’ 69.6.
The game will be a departure from conference play for both squads. Texas State competes in the Sun Belt Conference, while Northern Illinois plays in the Mid-American Conference.
This marks the first meeting between the programs in recent seasons. The Huskies will hope to leverage home-court advantage at the Convocation Center, where they have a 3-7 record this season. The Bobcats are 3-8 in true road games.
Following this contest, Texas State returns to Sun Belt play at South Alabama on Feb. 12. Northern Illinois continues its homestand, hosting Massachusetts on Feb. 10.
Tip-off is set for Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, at the Convocation Center on the Northern Illinois campus.
