Troy at Ball State
Preview: Troy Visits Ball State in Key Non-Conference Clash
MUNCIE, Ind. (Interstat) — Two of the nation’s hottest women’s basketball teams will collide Saturday when the Troy Trojans visit the Ball State Cardinals in a high-stakes non-conference matchup at Worthen Arena.
The Trojans (19-3), riding a seven-game winning streak, enter as one of the most efficient offensive teams in the country. Their only losses this season came on the road against Power Five opponent Alabama and in a narrow 98-95 shootout at Southern Mississippi. Troy averages 82.1 points per game during its current streak, showcasing a potent and balanced attack.
Ball State (18-5) counters with its own formidable momentum, having won nine of its last ten games. The Cardinals’ offense has been explosive, scoring 83 or more points in four of their last five contests, including a 101-point outburst at Kent State. Their lone recent misstep was a 72-52 home loss to Miami (Ohio) on Jan. 24.
The spotlight will shine on two standout guards. Troy’s Zay Dyer has been a model of consistency, scoring in double figures in nine straight games. She is coming off a 20-point, 4-block performance in a win over Appalachian State and recorded a 23-point, 14-rebound double-double against Georgia State on Jan. 24.
Ball State’s Grace Kingery provides equal firepower. She dropped 23 points in just 23 minutes in Wednesday’s rout of Northern Illinois and scored 22 in the win at Kent State. Her ability to score in bunches will be critical against Troy’s high-pressure defense.
This game represents a final major non-conference test for both squads before they dive into the stretch run of their respective league schedules. For Troy, a member of the Sun Belt Conference, a road win against a strong Mid-American Conference opponent like Ball State would bolster its NCAA tournament resume. For the Cardinals, it’s a chance to secure a signature victory against a ranked-caliber team on their home floor.
Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. EST Saturday at Worthen Arena. The game will be a showcase of offensive firepower, with both teams looking to solidify their postseason credentials.
