Tarleton State at Abilene Christian

ABILENE, Texas (Interstat) — A Western Athletic Conference rematch awaits when the Abilene Christian women’s basketball team hosts Tarleton State on Tuesday night at Moody Coliseum.

The Wildcats (15-6, 5-3 WAC) look to complete a regular-season sweep after edging the Texans 64-59 on Jan. 8 in Abilene. They enter having dropped a narrow 71-68 road game at Southern Utah on Saturday, despite a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds from forward Emma Troxell.

Troxell, a key player for the Wildcats, also contributed 9 points in the first meeting against Tarleton State. She averages 9.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.

Tarleton State (11-9, 4-4) arrives with momentum from a 63-45 road victory at Utah Tech on Saturday. Guard Jakoriah Long led the way with 20 points and five rebounds in that win. Long, the Texans’ scoring leader at 12.3 points per game, was held to 4 points in a loss at Utah Valley last Thursday but scored 12 in the previous loss to Abilene Christian.

The Texans have shown a pattern of strong defensive performances, holding opponents under 50 points in three of their last six games. However, consistency has been elusive, as evidenced by their .500 conference record.

Abilene Christian has been strong at home this season, boasting a 9-2 record in Abilene. Their defense, allowing just 58.2 points per game, will be tested by a Tarleton State squad that averages 66.1 points.

The matchup features a contrast in conference standing, with the Wildcats aiming to solidify their position near the top of the WAC and the Texans seeking to climb above .500 in league play. Tuesday’s result will set the tone for the quick-turnaround rematch scheduled for Feb. 14 in Stephenville.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CST.
