BOONE, N.C. (Interstat) — The Louisiana-Monroe women’s basketball team built a substantial lead and withstood a late rally to defeat Appalachian State 78-70 in a Sun Belt Conference game Friday afternoon at Holmes Center.

The Warhawks led by 17 points entering the fourth quarter before the Mountaineers mounted a comeback attempt, outscoring Louisiana-Monroe 26-22 in the final period. The rally fell short as the Warhawks secured the road win. Louisiana-Monroe improved to 9-12 overall, while Appalachian State fell to 10-11.

Louisiana-Monroe established control early, leading 34-27 at halftime and extending its advantage after the break. The Warhawks dominated inside, scoring 46 points in the paint compared to 32 for the Mountaineers. Attendance was 208.
