Fordham at George Washington

Preview: Fordham Rams at George Washington Revolutionaries

WASHINGTON (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum in the middle of their conference schedules will meet Saturday when the Fordham Rams visit the George Washington Revolutionaries in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball game at the Charles E. Smith Center.

The matchup features Fordham (9-10) and George Washington (10-11), both looking to climb back to .500. The Revolutionaries enter on a two-game skid, including a narrow 63-60 road loss to VCU on Wednesday. In that game, guard Sara Lewis scored 20 points, continuing her recent run of strong offensive performances. Over her last four games, Lewis is averaging 15.5 points and has scored 17 or more three times, establishing herself as George Washington’s primary scoring threat.

Fordham also looks to rebound from a tough overtime loss, falling 67-57 to Saint Louis on Wednesday. The Rams have lost six of their last seven games. A player to watch for the Rams is forward Precious Omoshola, who is coming off one of her most productive games of the season with eight rebounds and six points in 21 minutes against Saint Louis. Her activity on the boards will be key against a George Washington squad that features Lewis’s all-around game.

The Revolutionaries hold a slight edge in the season standings and will have home-court advantage. Their most convincing recent win was a 59-45 road victory at Duquesne on Jan. 14, a game in which Lewis led all scorers with 17 points.

Fordham’s last victory was a 66-53 win over Saint Bonaventure on Jan. 18. Since then, they have struggled offensively, failing to score more than 65 points in any of their last six contests.

Historically, this game represents an opportunity for either team to gain traction before the final stretch of the season. George Washington will continue its homestand against Saint Louis on Jan. 28, while Fordham travels to face VCU on the same date.

Saturday’s tipoff in the nation’s capital is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST.
