Richmond at Rhode Island
Preview: Richmond Spiders at Rhode Island Rams - Women’s NCAA Basketball
KINGSTON, R.I. (Interstat) — A marquee non-conference women’s basketball matchup awaits Tuesday as the Richmond Spiders visit the Rhode Island Rams at the Ryan Center.
Both teams enter the Dec. 30 contest with strong early-season resumes. Richmond (11-3) has won four straight, including a 70-54 road victory at Penn State on Dec. 21. Rhode Island (10-2) carries a four-game winning streak of its own, last defeating Wagner 72-36 on Dec. 19.
The game features a compelling individual matchup, headlined by Richmond’s standout forward Maggie Doogan. The junior is averaging 23.2 points over her last six games, coming off a dominant 30-point, five-rebound performance in 40 minutes against Penn State. Doogan has showcased versatile playmaking, recording at least five assists in four of those contests.
Rhode Island counters with forward Albina Syla, who posted 18 points and nine rebounds in the Rams’ most recent outing. Her interior presence will be key against a Richmond frontcourt that includes Rachel Ullstrom, who notched a double-double (12 points, 14 rebounds) against Penn State.
Richmond’s offense has been potent during its streak, averaging 74.8 points per game in its last four wins. Rhode Island has relied on a stifling defense, holding opponents to 48.8 points per game during its current win streak.
This marks the final non-conference tune-up for both programs before Atlantic 10 Conference play begins Saturday. Richmond opens at Saint Bonaventure, while Rhode Island travels to Loyola Chicago.
The Spiders lead the all-time series 19-12, but the Rams won the most recent meeting, 65-61, on Jan. 11, 2025.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
