Preview: Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks at Fairleigh Dickinson Knights
TEANECK, N.J. (Interstat) — The Fairleigh Dickinson Knights look to rebound from a rare home loss when they host the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks in a non-conference women’s basketball matchup Tuesday.
The Knights (8-4) saw a three-game winning streak snapped Monday in a 62-51 defeat to Binghamton. Fairleigh Dickinson, which had been strong defensively in its recent wins, will aim to rediscover that form against the visiting Hawks (7-9).
Fairleigh Dickinson is led by guard Kailee McDonald, who is coming off a 40-minute, 11-point effort in the loss. McDonald has been a consistent scoring threat, posting 22 points in a win over Ursinus on Dec. 20 and 23 points against Lafayette on Dec. 4.
Maryland-Eastern Shore also enters on a losing note, falling 78-57 at Penn on Monday. The Hawks have lost four of their last five games, with the lone win in that stretch a 90-75 victory over Bloomfield College.
A key player for the Hawks is guard Dayshawna Carter. She led the team with 13 points, four rebounds and three assists in 30 minutes against Penn. Carter has shown high-scoring potential, registering 21 points in an overtime loss to Towson on Dec. 17.
The Knights have been dominant at home this season, boasting a 5-1 record at Rothman Center, with the loss to Binghamton their first home setback. Their victories include decisive wins over Ursinus, Lafayette and Monmouth.
Maryland-Eastern Shore has struggled on the road, with a 1-6 record away from Princess Anne, Md. That lone road win was a 56-52 victory at Wichita State on Dec. 5.
Following this game, Fairleigh Dickinson begins a stretch of road games, traveling to Mercyhurst on Friday. Maryland-Eastern Shore opens its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference schedule at home against Morgan State on Saturday.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST at the Rothman Center.
