IU Indy at Evansville
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Interstat) — A dominant second-half performance by Evansville, led by a career-high scoring effort from Camryn Runner, propelled the Purple Aces to their first victory of the season, a 75-58 win over the visiting IU Indy Jaguars in a nonconference women’s basketball game Thursday night at Ford Center.
The game was a tale of two halves, with the Jaguars holding a narrow 26-23 lead at the break. The third quarter, however, proved decisive as the Purple Aces erupted for 27 points while holding IU Indy to 16, completely flipping the momentum of the contest. Evansville maintained its offensive rhythm in the final period, adding another 25 points to secure the 17-point victory.
Runner, a guard from Cicero, Indiana, was the catalyst for the Evansville offense. She played 38 minutes and poured in 25 points, dishing out a team-high seven assists. She was complemented by fellow guard Logan Luebbers Palmer of Union, Kentucky, who also delivered a standout performance with 23 points.
The Jaguars were paced by Nevaeh Foster of South Bend, Indiana, who scored 16 points. Sydney Bolden of Loganville, Georgia, added 11 points for IU Indy.
While the first half was a low-scoring, defensive struggle, Evansville’s offensive efficiency after halftime was the difference. The Purple Aces shot 46.2 percent from the field for the game and were an efficient 9 for 19 from three-point range. They also capitalized at the free-throw line, making 18 of 24 attempts.
IU Indy struggled with its shooting throughout the night, converting just 18 of 53 field goal attempts for a 34 percent clip. The Jaguars were also hampered by 21 turnovers, which Evansville converted into key scoring opportunities.
The loss drops IU Indy to 2-3 on the season, while Evansville improves to 1-4.
The Jaguars will look to rebound on the road against Marshall on Sunday. Evansville’s next contest is also on the road, at SIU Edwardsville on Tuesday.
