George Mason at Richmond
Preview: George Mason Patriots at Richmond Spiders
RICHMOND, Va. (Interstat) — A surging George Mason women’s basketball team aims to upset Atlantic 10 front-runner Richmond when the Patriots visit the Spiders on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, at the Robins Center.
The matchup features two of the conference’s hottest teams. Richmond (19-4 overall) enters with a seven-game winning streak, including a dominant 92-44 road victory over Saint Louis last Wednesday. The Spiders’ offense has been prolific during the run, averaging 82 points per game.
George Mason (15-6) counters with a seven-game win streak of its own, most recently a 66-51 home win over Saint Louis on Jan. 31. The Patriots have leaned on a stout defense, holding opponents to an average of 52.1 points during their streak.
A key matchup will be in the backcourt between two of the A-10’s top performers. George Mason is led by guard Zahirah Walton, who is averaging 17.4 points over her last seven games. She nearly posted a triple-double against Saint Louis with 15 points, nine rebounds and six assists.
Richmond’s standout, guard Rachel Ullstrom, provides efficient scoring and playmaking. She has scored in double figures in 10 straight games, including a 26-point performance at Dayton on Jan. 14. In the first meeting against VCU this season, she added eight rebounds to her 15 points.
The Spiders won the only meeting last season, 74-59, on Feb. 18, 2025. This contest could have significant implications for the conference standings, with Richmond looking to protect its position at the top and George Mason seeking to climb into the upper tier.
Richmond holds a notable home-court advantage at the Robins Center, where it is 10-1 this season. George Mason has found success on the road during its streak, winning its last three away contests.
The teams will meet again just nine days later, on Monday, Feb. 16, at George Mason’s EagleBank Arena.
