Howard at Syracuse
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Interstat) — The Howard Lady Bison, looking to rebound from a lopsided loss, visit the Syracuse Orange in a nonconference women’s basketball matchup Sunday at the Carrier Dome.
Howard (6-2) saw its four-game winning streak snapped in a 92-62 road loss to Purdue on Wednesday. The Lady Bison were led by Zoe Stewart, who scored 16 points, while Zennia Thomas added 12 points and seven rebounds. Prior to that defeat, Howard had strung together victories over William & Mary, Monmouth, Elon and George Washington.
Syracuse (5-1) also enters following a loss, falling 81-55 at Michigan on Nov. 23. Izoje Uche recorded a double-double in that contest with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Laila Phelia scored a team-high 13 points. The Orange’s only blemish before that was a strong 61-49 win over Utah.
The game pits Howard’s solid early-season form against a Syracuse team that has dominated at home, including a 78-29 rout of Wagner. Howard will continue a challenging road stretch after this game, with upcoming contests at Old Dominion and Virginia. Syracuse will host Auburn on Wednesday before a road test at SMU next weekend.
