Ullstrom Leads Richmond to Convincing Atlantic 10 Victory Over Fordham

RICHMOND, Va. (Interstat) — Rachel Ullstrom scored 27 points and Maggie Doogan added 18 points and six assists as the Richmond Spiders used a dominant third quarter to pull away from the Fordham Rams for an 84-65 victory in Atlantic 10 women’s basketball on Wednesday night at the Robins Center.

A tightly contested first half gave way to a decisive surge after halftime, with Richmond outscoring Fordham 30-17 in the third quarter to turn a four-point lead into a commanding 66-44 advantage. The Spiders improved to 13-4 overall, while Fordham fell to 8-7.

Ullstrom, a 6-foot-1 junior from Auburn, Massachusetts, was the catalyst, hitting 10 of 18 shots from the field, including three 3-pointers, and all four of her free throws. She added two assists, a block and a steal in 37 minutes. Her performance came on the heels of a 13-point outing in a win over Saint Bonaventure last Saturday.

Doogan, a 6-2 sophomore from Broomall, Pennsylvania, complemented Ullstrom’s scoring with an all-around effort that included two blocks. Tierra Simon and Sam Dewey each added 12 points for a balanced Richmond attack that saw eight players score.

Fordham was led by Ornella Niankan with 12 points and Carryn Easley with 10 points and four assists. The Rams stayed close early, trailing just 36-27 at halftime, but could not withstand Richmond’s offensive efficiency in the pivotal third period.

The Spiders shot 50.9% from the field for the game, compared to Fordham’s 36.5%. Richmond also held a significant edge at the free-throw line, making 18 of 22 attempts, while Fordham hit 12 of 16. Both teams committed 16 turnovers, but Richmond’s ability to convert possessions into points proved decisive, posting an offensive rating of 115.9 to Fordham’s 87.1.

The game’s most important sequence unfolded in the opening minutes of the third quarter. Leading 36-27, Richmond opened the second half with a 10-2 run, capped by an Ally Sweeney 3-pointer off a Doogan assist, to push the lead to 46-29. Fordham never recovered, as the Spiders continued to execute, shooting 64.3% from the field in the quarter while holding the Rams to 35% shooting.

The victory was Richmond’s second straight in conference play following a road loss at Rhode Island to close 2025. Fordham has now lost two consecutive games after a 78-49 defeat to Saint Joseph’s last Saturday.

An announced crowd of 1,204 watched the game at the Robins Center. Richmond’s national statistical ELO projection gave the Spiders a 97.9% probability to win entering the contest.

Richmond next hosts Davidson on Saturday. Fordham returns home to face Dayton, also on Saturday.
