Harvard Dominates Dartmouth in Ivy League Women’s Basketball
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (Interstat) — The Harvard women’s basketball team delivered a defensive masterclass, overwhelming Dartmouth from the opening tip and cruising to a 75-35 victory in an Ivy League contest Saturday at Lavietes Pavilion.
The Crimson’s relentless pressure suffocated the Big Green offense, forcing 21 turnovers and converting them into 32 points. Harvard’s defense set the tone early, holding Dartmouth to just three points in the first quarter and 12 for the entire first half, building a commanding 34-12 lead by intermission. The Crimson never relented, leading by as many as 40 points in the fourth quarter before settling for the 40-point final margin.
Harvard improved to 13-8 overall and strengthened its position in the conference race, while Dartmouth fell to 10-11.
The most important part of the game was Harvard’s immediate and sustained defensive dominance, which rendered Dartmouth’s offense inert from the outset. The Crimson opened the game with a 14-0 run before Dartmouth registered its first point, a free throw with 3:26 remaining in the first quarter. Harvard’s length and activity in passing lanes produced 13 steals, and they controlled the glass with a staggering 21 offensive rebounds leading to repeated second-chance opportunities. This defensive foundation created easy transition baskets and allowed Harvard to build an insurmountable lead before the game was even ten minutes old, effectively deciding the contest in its opening phase.
Karlee White led a balanced Harvard attack with 12 points and five rebounds. Aubrey Shaw provided a significant spark off the bench, scoring a game-high 15 points in just 14 minutes, including three three-pointers. Saniyah Glenn orchestrated the offense with four assists and three steals, while Katie Krupa contributed six points, three assists, three rebounds and two blocks.
For Dartmouth, which shot just 29.4 percent from the field and managed only two assists for the game, Alexandra Eldredge was the lone player in double figures with 10 points in 38 minutes of action. The Big Green’s offensive rating of 58.3 on 60 possessions underscored the profound difficulty they faced against Harvard’s defensive scheme.
Harvard’s offensive execution, while not always efficient from the perimeter, was more than sufficient given its defensive performance. The Crimson scored 38 points in the paint and enjoyed a 13-2 advantage in assists, illustrating superior ball movement and shot creation.
The game was a reversal of the teams’ first meeting on Jan. 3, which Harvard won 72-47, but this performance was even more emphatic. The Crimson’s victory was its second in a row, while Dartmouth saw a two-game winning streak snapped.
An announced crowd of 854 at Lavietes Pavilion watched the Crimson hold an opponent under 40 points for the third time this season.
Harvard next travels to face Yale on Friday. Dartmouth will look to regroup on the road at Brown next Friday.
