South Florida at East Carolina
GREENVILLE, N.C. (Interstat) — A surging East Carolina squad looks to solidify its standing in the American Athletic Conference when it hosts a South Florida team seeking consistency on Wednesday night.
The Pirates (16-7) have won six of their last eight games and are coming off a 67-61 road victory at Charlotte last Friday. They will host the Bulls (13-9) at Williams Arena in a key league matchup.
East Carolina is led by dynamic guard Kennedy Fauntleroy, who is averaging 17.4 points and 6.4 assists over her last seven games. She scored 21 points and dished five assists in the win over Charlotte, following a 27-point, eight-assist performance in a win over Temple on Jan. 17. Her playmaking will be central to the Pirates’ attack.
South Florida, which edged Charlotte 66-60 in overtime on Jan. 27 in its last outing, will counter with guard Edyn Battle. She scored 21 points in that win and has been a steady offensive force, reaching double figures in scoring in seven consecutive games. During that stretch, she averaged 14.9 points and 4.9 assists per contest.
The Bulls have experienced recent volatility, following a five-game winning streak in early January with back-to-back narrow road losses at Temple and Florida Atlantic. They will need to find stability on the road against a formidable Pirates team that is 9-2 at home this season.
East Carolina holds a significant edge in the overall season record, but South Florida has shown the ability to compete with top teams, taking Temple to overtime on the road earlier this month. The matchup between Fauntleroy and Battle will be a key guard duel to watch.
Following this game, East Carolina travels to Tulane on Feb. 10, while South Florida returns home to host Tulane on Feb. 7.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday at Williams Arena.
