Albany at Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Interstat) — Two teams coming off dominant season-opening victories will meet Friday when the Albany Great Danes visit the Syracuse Orange in a nonconference women’s basketball matchup at the Carrier Dome.

Both teams enter with 1-0 records after winning by 28 points on Tuesday. Albany cruised past Marist 74-46, while Syracuse handled Stony Brook by an identical 74-50 score.

The Great Danes were led by a 20-point performance from guard Delanie Hill in the win over Marist. Forward Amaya Stewart added 17 points, five rebounds and four blocks, and Martina Borrellas chipped in 12 points and six rebounds.

The Orange showcased a balanced attack against Stony Brook. Shy Hawkins led the way with 13 points, while Dominique Darius nearly recorded a double-double with 12 points and eight rebounds. Laila Phelia also scored 12 points and dished out four assists.

The game is the first of a challenging road stretch for Albany, which will play seven of its next eight games away from home. Syracuse continues a season-opening homestand before heading to a multi-team event in Connecticut later this month.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday.
