Wichita State at Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to build momentum at the end of difficult seasons will meet Saturday when the Memphis Tigers host the Wichita State Shockers in an American Athletic Conference women’s basketball game at FedExForum.

The matchup features teams with nearly identical records. Memphis enters at 9-21 overall, while Wichita State is 8-22. Both squads are coming off narrow performances in their last outings, albeit with different results. The Shockers snapped a two-game skid with a 60-55 home win over North Texas on Tuesday. The Tigers, meanwhile, fell 79-76 in overtime to UAB on Wednesday, their fifth consecutive loss.

The game will showcase two of the conference’s top individual talents in Wichita State guard Abby Cater and Memphis guard Daejah Richmond. Cater is averaging 17.4 points per game over her last seven contests, including a 20-point, three-assist effort in the win over North Texas. Richmond has been a workhorse for Memphis, logging heavy minutes and stuffing the stat sheet. She is averaging 19.6 points and 4.6 assists over her last seven games, highlighted by a 23-point, five-assist performance in the overtime loss to UAB.

Wichita State won the previous meeting this season, 66-59, at home on Jan. 20. In that game, the Shockers limited Memphis to 32.8% shooting from the field.

For the Shockers, finding consistent offense beyond Cater will be key. Treasure Thompson (13 points) and Taya Davis (six assists) provided support in the North Texas victory. Memphis will rely on Richmond’s all-around play and seek secondary scoring from players like Tamya Smith, who had 17 points against UAB.

Tipoff is set for Saturday, March 7, 2026, in Memphis.
