Drexel, Towson Set for Pivotal Women’s Basketball Regular-Season Finale
TOWSON, Md. (Interstat) — The Drexel Dragons and Towson Tigers will meet Saturday in a Colonial Athletic Association women’s basketball regular-season finale with significant seeding implications for the upcoming conference tournament.
Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. EST at SECU Arena.
Drexel (20-8, 14-3 CAA) enters on a six-game winning streak, including a 70-56 road victory at Hofstra on Thursday. The Dragons have already secured a top-two tournament seed but can clinch the regular-season title with a win and a loss by first-place Stony Brook.
Towson (16-13, 11-6 CAA) looks to rebound after a high-scoring 83-77 loss at Monmouth on Thursday. The Tigers have won three of their last five and are locked into the seed for the CAA Tournament.
The matchup features two of the league’s top guards. Drexel is led by junior Laine McGurk, who is averaging 17.4 points over her last five games. She scored 15 points with four assists in the win over Hofstra.
Towson counters with dynamic senior India Johnston, who is coming off a 19-point, five-assist performance against Monmouth. She has scored 20 or more points in three of her last six contests.
In the previous meeting this season, Drexel dominated Towson 68-45 in Philadelphia on Jan. 24. The Dragons have won eight of the last ten matchups in the series.
For Drexel, a victory would cap a strong regular season and provide momentum heading into the conference tournament. Towson aims to protect its home court, where it is 9-4 this season, and build confidence before postseason play begins.
