Preview: Boston University Terriers at Loyola Maryland Greyhounds
BALTIMORE (Interstat) — A tight Patriot League rematch is set for Saturday when the Loyola Maryland Greyhounds host the Boston University Terriers in women’s basketball at Reitz Arena.
The Greyhounds (9-13) edged the Terriers (7-15) 56-55 in Boston on Jan. 17, a result that looms large for both teams seeking momentum in the conference standings. Loyola Maryland holds a slight edge in the overall season record.
Loyola Maryland is led by standout forward Lex Therien, who scored 21 points in the first meeting against Boston University. Therien is averaging 16.3 points over her last six games, including a 17-point performance in a narrow 63-62 loss at Lehigh on Wednesday.
Boston University will counter with guard Hildur Gunnsteinsdóttir, who has been a key facilitator. In the Terriers’ last win, a 66-55 victory at Lafayette on Jan. 21, she dished out eight assists. The team is looking to snap a three-game skid following a 60-46 loss at Holy Cross on Monday, where Gunnsteinsdóttir led the team with eight points.
Both teams are coming off recent road losses. The Greyhounds fell to Lehigh by one point, while the Terriers’ loss to Holy Cross was part of a difficult stretch where they have lost five of their last seven.
The matchup hinges on Loyola Maryland’s ability to leverage Therien’s consistent scoring inside against a Boston University team that has struggled offensively, failing to reach 50 points in three of its last four games. Containing Therien will be a primary focus for the Terriers’ defense.
With the teams separated by just two games in the loss column and the memory of a one-point decision earlier this season, Saturday’s contest is critical for positioning ahead of the Patriot League tournament next month.
Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026.
