Belmont at Evansville
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Interstat) — The Belmont Bruins look to continue their recent success and complete a season sweep when they visit the struggling Evansville Purple Aces in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball game Thursday night at Ford Center.
Belmont (11-8) enters having won five of its last six games, with the lone loss a 69-48 setback at Murray State on Jan. 18. The Bruins previously defeated Evansville 77-67 in Nashville on Dec. 17. A key to their surge has been the efficient scoring of guard Hilary Fuller. Over her last six games, Fuller is averaging 16.0 points in just 18.8 minutes per contest, including a 27-point, 9-rebound performance in a win over Illinois State on Jan. 4. She scored 22 points in the loss to Murray State.
Evansville (5-15) snapped a four-game skid with a 68-65 road win at Northern Iowa on Jan. 25. The Purple Aces are led by guard Camryn Runner, who has been a consistent all-around force. Runner is coming off a 17-point, 7-rebound, 7-assist effort in the win and scored 30 points with 9 rebounds and 7 assists in a close loss to Indiana State on Jan. 18. She averages 17.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game over her last seven contests.
While Belmont has found a rhythm in conference play, Evansville has struggled for consistency, particularly on defense, allowing an average of 77.3 points in its last three losses. The Bruins will aim to exploit that, leveraging their balanced attack and the hot hand of Fuller. Evansville will rely on Runner’s playmaking and look to build momentum from its recent road victory as it returns home.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST Thursday. Belmont visits Drake on Feb. 5, while Evansville hosts Indiana State on Feb. 1.
