Connecticut at DePaul

ROSEMONT, Ill. (Interstat) — The top-ranked and undefeated Connecticut Huskies bring their dominant women’s basketball show on the road Wednesday, facing a struggling DePaul Blue Demons squad in a Big East Conference matchup at Allstate Arena.

UConn (23-0, 12-0 Big East) arrives as perhaps the most overwhelming favorite in the sport. The Huskies are coming off a 96-66 demolition of Tennessee on Sunday, their 15th victory this season by 40 or more points. They have won their 12 conference games by an average margin of 48.3 points.

Senior guard Azzi Fudd is playing at a peak level for the Huskies. She poured in 27 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in 38 minutes against the Lady Vols. Over her last five games, Fudd is averaging 18.2 points and 4.4 assists while shooting efficiently from the perimeter.

She is far from alone. Forward Sarah Strong added 26 points and nine rebounds against Tennessee, and the Huskies’ deep roster features multiple All-America candidates. UConn leads the nation in scoring margin, field goal percentage defense and assists per game.

DePaul (5-19, 2-10) is mired in a difficult season, having lost 10 of its last 12 games. The Blue Demons fell 69-56 at Villanova on Saturday. Guard Natiah Nelson, who scored 10 points in that contest, is a key contributor. Michelle Ojo provides interior presence, averaging a team-high 7.8 rebounds.

The teams met earlier this season on Dec. 7 in Storrs, with UConn delivering a 102-35 defeat. The Huskies have won 24 consecutive games in the series, with DePaul’s last victory coming in 1983.

For the Blue Demons, the challenge is historic. They must find a way to slow UConn’s transition game and prolific offense while dealing with the Huskies’ relentless, switching defense. A monumental upset would require a near-perfect performance and a catastrophic off-night from the nation’s best team.

Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on SNY.
