South Dakota State at North Dakota

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Interstat) — A Summit League women’s basketball matchup on Wednesday pits one of the conference’s top contenders against a team searching for momentum as the South Dakota State Jackrabbits visit the North Dakota Fighting Hawks.

The Jackrabbits (14-5, 4-1 Summit) enter Engelstad Arena looking to rebound from a rare conference loss, a 76-68 defeat to North Dakota State on Saturday that snapped a four-game winning streak. Prior to that, South Dakota State’s offense was dominant, averaging 86.3 points during that win streak, including a 103-point outburst against Oral Roberts.

South Dakota State is led by standout forward Brooklyn Meyer, who is coming off a 24-point, five-block performance in the loss. Over her last five games, Meyer is averaging 18.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.6 blocks, showcasing her two-way impact. Madison Mathiowetz (15 points) and Katie Vasecka (11 points) were also key contributors in the most recent game.

North Dakota (4-14, 1-4) has struggled, losing four of its last five. The Fighting Hawks are coming off a 62-39 road loss at South Dakota where they shot just 27.3% from the field. Guard Walker Demers, the team’s player to watch, scored 10 points in that contest. She had a season-high 23 points in a win over Omaha on Jan. 8, highlighting her scoring potential.

The Fighting Hawks’ four wins have come against non-Division I opponents Mayville State and Dickinson State, Omaha, and a November victory over Elon. They have faced significant challenges against stronger competition, often struggling to keep pace offensively.

Historically, South Dakota State has controlled the series, and the stark contrast in season trajectories is evident in the records. The Jackrabbits aim to reassert their conference standing, while North Dakota seeks a pivotal home upset to climb the league table.

Following this game, South Dakota State travels to face Missouri-Kansas City on Saturday. North Dakota hits the road for a game at Saint Thomas (Minn.) on Saturday.
