Illinois Routs Le Moyne in Dominant Women’s Basketball Victory

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Interstat) — The Illinois women’s basketball team delivered a commanding performance Sunday afternoon at State Farm Center, overwhelming the visiting Le Moyne Dolphins in a lopsided non-conference affair.

From the opening tip, the Fighting Illini established a dominant tone, embarking on a 24-0 run in the first quarter that effectively decided the contest before it had truly begun. The Illinois defense was suffocating, forcing a cascade of turnovers and converting them into easy transition baskets at the other end. The onslaught continued unabated, with Illinois building a 52-28 lead by halftime and never looking back.

The victory improved Illinois’s season record to six wins and one loss, while Le Moyne fell to one win and six losses.

Illinois’s attack was a balanced and efficient display, led by a standout performance from Cearah Parchment. The 6-foot-3 forward from Whitby, Canada, was a force on both ends of the floor, scoring 17 points and adding a block and multiple steals in just 23 minutes of action. Her defensive pressure was a key catalyst in the first-quarter run that buried the Dolphins.

She was joined in double figures by several teammates. Berry Wallace, a 6-1 guard from Pickerington, Ohio, also scored 17 points, showcasing a versatile inside-out game. Maddie Webber contributed 15 points, three assists and a block, while Gretchen Dolan of Buffalo, New York, came off the bench to provide 11 points and three assists.

The engine of the Illinois offense was point guard Destiny Jackson. The Chicago native orchestrated the proceedings with precision, dishing out eight assists to go along with 10 points, consistently breaking down the Le Moyne defense and finding open teammates.

The Illini also received valuable contributions from their reserves. Aaliyah Guyton from Peoria, Illinois, scored 10 points, while Jasmine Brown-Hagger of Shorewood, Illinois, added seven points, two assists and a block. The interior presence was bolstered by 6-7 center Lety Vasconcelos of Miguel Calmon, Brazil, who recorded four points and two blocks, and Irene Noya Catoira of Vilagarcía de Arousa, Spain, who chipped in five points.

For Le Moyne, the struggle was evident from the start against Illinois’s relentless defensive pressure. The Dolphins committed numerous turnovers, which the Illini converted into easy points in a devastating display of transition basketball. Eli Clark, a 5-8 guard from Oakhurst, New Jersey, led Le Moyne with eight points and two assists in the losing effort.

The game’s outcome was never in doubt after the initial Illinois surge. The Fighting Illini maintained their intensity throughout, extending their lead in each subsequent quarter and cruising to the decisive victory.

The game was part of a challenging early-season stretch for Le Moyne, which has faced a series of power-conference opponents. The Dolphins will look to regroup when they return home to host Saint Bonaventure on Saturday, Dec. 6.

Illinois, meanwhile, continues its homestand and will seek its seventh win of the season when it hosts Bellarmine on Tuesday, Dec. 2. The Fighting Illini will then open Big Ten Conference play at home against Indiana on Saturday, Dec. 6.
