DAYTON, Ohio (Interstat) — The Dayton Flyers look to solidify their position in the Atlantic 10 Conference standings when they host the struggling VCU Rams in a women’s basketball matchup Saturday at University of Dayton Arena.

Dayton (15-13 overall) enters the contest looking to build momentum from a 67-58 road victory over Loyola Chicago on Wednesday. The Flyers have been inconsistent in conference play but hold a clear advantage in the standings over VCU (8-21), which is mired in a seven-game losing streak. The Rams’ last win was a 69-58 victory over Fordham on Jan. 28.

A key matchup will feature Dayton’s Molly O’Riordan against VCU’s Ann Zachariah. O’Riordan, a versatile forward, is coming off a strong performance against Loyola Chicago, where she scored 15 points and recorded five blocks in 23 minutes. Over her last seven games, she has averaged 11.4 points and 5.1 rebounds, providing a consistent interior presence for the Flyers.

For VCU, Zachariah has been a bright spot during the difficult stretch. The guard scored 13 points in 21 minutes in the Rams’ most recent loss, a 71-54 defeat to La Salle on Wednesday. She has averaged 5.9 points over the last eight contests and will need to be productive for VCU to challenge on the road.

The Flyers won the first meeting this season, defeating VCU 68-55 in Richmond on Jan. 11. Dayton’s defense, which forced 18 turnovers in that game, will likely focus on disrupting a VCU offense that has failed to reach 55 points in five of its last six games.

Dayton Arena has provided a modest home-court advantage this season, with the Flyers posting a 9-6 record at home. VCU is 4-10 in true road games. With the Atlantic 10 tournament approaching, Dayton aims to secure a favorable seed, while VCU seeks to snap its skid and build confidence for the future.
