Kansas at Oklahoma State
STILLWATER, Okla. (Interstat) — A surging Kansas team looks to avenge an early-season loss when it visits Oklahoma State in a key Big 12 women’s basketball matchup Saturday at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The Jayhawks (18-11, 11-7 Big 12) enter on a three-game winning streak, most recently defeating Texas Tech 68-59 on Wednesday. They are led by guard S’Mya Nichols, who is averaging 18.4 points and 4.6 assists per game over her last seven contests. She scored 19 points in the win over Texas Tech.
The No. 22-ranked Cowgirls (22-8, 13-5), coming off an 88-77 road win at Iowa State, boast a potent offense and seek a regular-season sweep. Oklahoma State won the first meeting 85-76 in Lawrence on Jan. 14. Guard Achol Akot, who scored 25 points against Iowa State, is a focal point, averaging 15.1 points per game in February.
Kansas’s recent success has been fueled by improved defense, holding opponents under 70 points in five straight games. Oklahoma State, however, presents a major challenge, averaging 75.3 points at home this season. The Cowgirls’ backcourt of Akot and Stailee Heard, who had 22 points and 8 rebounds in the January win over Kansas, will test the Jayhawks’ perimeter defense.
A Kansas victory would bolster its NCAA Tournament resume, while Oklahoma State aims to solidify its seeding. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. CST. The game will be broadcast on the Big 12 Now digital platform.
