North Carolina A&T at Campbell

Preview: North Carolina A&T Aggies at Campbell Fightin’ Camels

LILLINGTON, N.C. (Interstat) — The Campbell women’s basketball team looks to rebound from a midweek loss when it hosts North Carolina A&T in a nonconference matchup Sunday at John W. Pope, Jr. Convocation Center.

The Fightin’ Camels (14-9) enter having dropped a 61-49 decision to College of Charleston on Tuesday, a game in which Gianni Boone scored 14 points. Campbell had won three straight prior to that setback. Boone, a consistent scoring threat, has averaged 12.7 points over her last seven games, including a 21-point performance at Hampton on Jan. 23.

North Carolina A&T (9-12) arrives with momentum after a 67-61 home victory over Elon on Friday. The Aggies have shown resilience, alternating wins and losses over their past five contests.

A key matchup will feature the teams’ standout guards. Campbell’s Boone will be countered by A&T’s Paris Locke, who is coming off an 18-point effort in a win at Hampton on Feb. 1 and has scored in double figures in six of her last seven outings. Locke’s playmaking and scoring will be crucial for the Aggies’ offense.

Campbell holds a distinct advantage in the standings and has been strong at home this season, including a recent overtime win over UNC Wilmington. The Fightin’ Camels’ defense, which held Hampton to 43 points last month, will aim to contain a streaky A&T squad.

For North Carolina A&T, building on Friday’s win is essential as they navigate a challenging stretch of their schedule. Limiting turnovers and finding secondary scoring behind Locke will be priorities against a disciplined Campbell team.

The game tips off at 2 p.m. EST on Sunday. Campbell’s next game is at home against Hofstra on Feb. 13, while North Carolina A&T travels to face UNC Wilmington on the same date.
