Moore’s 30 Points, 12 Rebounds Lead Clemson Past Boston College
GREENVILLE, S.C. (Interstat) — Mia Moore scored 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Clemson to a dominant 83-59 victory over Boston College in Atlantic Coast Conference women’s basketball on Sunday at Bi-Lo Center.
The Lady Tigers, improving to 17-8 overall, used a decisive second-quarter run to pull away from the Eagles and never looked back, handing Boston College its 18th loss in its last 19 games. The Eagles fell to 4-22.
Clemson’s offensive efficiency was the story, as the Lady Tigers shot 56.9% from the field and scored 42 points in the paint. Boston College, by contrast, managed just 32.8% shooting and only 18 points inside.
The game was competitive early, with Boston College’s Athena Tomlinson and Kayla Rolph connecting on first-quarter three-pointers to keep pace. Clemson led 19-15 after one period, but the home team seized control with a 22-12 advantage in the second quarter. A key sequence saw Clemson’s Demeara Hinds convert an offensive rebound into a layup, followed by a three-pointer from Hannah Kohn, pushing the lead to double digits. The Lady Tigers took a 41-27 advantage into halftime.
Moore, a 5-foot-6 guard from Alpharetta, Georgia, was the catalyst throughout. She added six assists and a block to her double-double, orchestrating the offense and capitalizing on scoring opportunities. Her performance marked a significant rebound from a six-point outing in Clemson’s previous game, a loss at North Carolina.
Clemson’s inside presence, led by Hinds and Moore’s backcourt play, proved too much. Hinds, a 6-2 forward from Douglasville, Georgia, posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Rusne Augustinaite of Lithuania added 15 points for the Lady Tigers.
Boston College showed a brief spark in the third quarter, outscoring Clemson 23-21 behind 10 points in the period from Erin Houpt. A layup by Teionni McDaniel brought the Eagles within 53-45 with 4:33 left in the third, but Clemson responded immediately. Moore answered with a driving layup, and after a Boston College turnover, she found Hinds for another basket inside to quell the rally.
The Lady Tigers closed the third quarter on a 9-2 run, capped by two free throws from Moore, to extend the lead to 62-50. They then put the game fully out of reach by holding Boston College to just nine points in the final period.
Houpt led Boston College with 14 points. Rolph finished with 12 points and seven rebounds. The Eagles, who entered the game with the nation’s 352nd-ranked offense according to advanced metrics, struggled with consistency, committing 14 turnovers and securing only six offensive rebounds.
Clemson’s defense was active, recording five steals and three blocks, and converting 14 Boston College turnovers into points.
The announced attendance was 1,160.
