Alabama State at Grambling
Preview: Alabama State Lady Hornets at Grambling Lady Tigers
GRAMBLING, La. (Interstat) — Two Southwestern Athletic Conference women’s basketball teams on contrasting trajectories will meet Saturday when the Alabama State Lady Hornets visit the Grambling Lady Tigers at Fredrick Hobdy Assembly Center.
Alabama State (10-11, 7-2 SWAC) enters with momentum, having won five of its last six conference games. The Lady Hornets are coming off a 61-57 road victory at Southern on Thursday, fueled by 17 points from guard Alanah Pooler. Pooler has been a key figure during the team’s surge, averaging 11.7 points over her last four contests.
In contrast, Grambling (6-16, 3-6) has struggled, dropping four of its last five. The Lady Tigers fell 54-50 at home to Alabama A&M on Thursday. Guard Monica Marsh will look to provide a spark for the hosts; she scored 19 points in a narrow loss at Alcorn State on Monday and is averaging 14.0 points over her last two outings.
The matchup pits Alabama State’s recent offensive efficiency against a Grambling squad seeking consistency. Beyond Pooler, the Lady Hornets have received balanced contributions, including 11 points from Clearia Peterson and 10 points with six assists from Shamya Reid in the win over Southern.
Grambling’s conference wins have come at home against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and on the road against Bethune-Cookman and Prairie View. Protecting home court will be critical as they aim to halt their slide.
Saturday’s game is the first of a regular-season series split, with the rematch scheduled for Thursday, March 5, in Montgomery, Alabama.
Tip-off is set for Saturday, February 7, 2026, in Grambling.
