Coastal Carolina at Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark. (Interstat) — A surging Arkansas State women’s basketball team will look to continue its dominant Sun Belt Conference run when it hosts Coastal Carolina on Wednesday night at Convocation Center.

The Red Wolves (19-4) enter the matchup having won 10 of their last 11 games, firmly atop the league standings. Their lone conference loss came on Jan. 10 at Troy. Since then, Arkansas State has reeled off six straight wins, including a 69-61 victory at Georgia State last Thursday.

Guard Crislyn Rose has been instrumental, averaging 14.5 points and 5.2 assists over her last six contests. She erupted for 28 points and eight assists in a win over James Madison on Jan. 25.

Coastal Carolina (11-12) seeks consistency after a 77-88 home loss to Troy last Friday snapped a two-game winning streak. The Chanticleers are 4-4 in their last eight games.

They will rely heavily on standout Kinsea Grimes, who is coming off a 23-point, five-rebound performance against Troy. Over her last seven games, Grimes is averaging 16.1 points and 5.1 rebounds, providing a versatile scoring threat.

In their last outing, Coastal Carolina’s Tessa Grady joined Grimes in double figures with 25 points, but the team’s defense yielded 88 points. Slowing down Arkansas State’s balanced attack, which averages over 78 points per game, will be a primary challenge.

Arkansas State boasts a formidable home-court advantage, going 10-1 at Convocation Center this season. Their defense has been stifling, holding opponents to an average of just 57.2 points during their current six-game win streak.

The Red Wolves won both meetings last season. Wednesday’s contest is the only scheduled matchup between the teams this regular season.

Following this game, Arkansas State travels to face Eastern Michigan on Saturday in non-conference play. Coastal Carolina continues a road swing at Bowling Green on Saturday.
