Utah State at Air Force
Preview: Utah State Aggies at Air Force Falcons
AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (Interstat) — Two Mountain West women’s basketball teams looking to build on divergent recent results will meet Wednesday when the Air Force Falcons host the Utah State Aggies at Clune Arena.
The Falcons (9-12) enter with momentum from a 61-56 road victory over Fresno State on Saturday. The Aggies (6-15) aim to halt a seven-game losing streak, most recently a 58-33 loss at New Mexico.
Air Force’s offense runs through guard Milahnie Perry, who is coming off a career-high 27-point performance against Fresno State. Over her last five games, Perry is averaging 20.6 points, including a 31-point outing against Colorado State on Jan. 14. Her scoring surge will be central to the Falcons’ attack.
Utah State will counter with forward Sophie Sene, who has been a bright spot during the skid. Sene leads the Aggies in scoring in conference play and posted 12 points, four rebounds and three blocks in the loss to New Mexico. She has scored in double figures in four of her last seven contests.
In the first meeting this season on Dec. 17 in Logan, Utah, the Aggies defeated the Falcons 65-53. Air Force will seek to defend its home court and split the season series.
The Falcons have shown resilience at Clune Arena this season, including a decisive win over Nevada in late December. Utah State, still searching for its first Mountain West win, has struggled on the road, with its last victory away from home coming on Dec. 31.
Wednesday’s contest is the first of a two-game homestand for Air Force. Utah State continues a challenging stretch of conference play before returning home Saturday.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST.
