Pepperdine at Santa Clara
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Interstat) — A surging Santa Clara squad looks to continue its dominant run in West Coast Conference play when it hosts a Pepperdine team seeking consistency Saturday at Leavey Center.
The Broncos (18-5), winners of seven of their last eight, boast one of the league’s most potent offenses, averaging 81.2 points per game. They are coming off a 102-71 rout of Washington State on Thursday, where they shot 56% from the field. Guard Ashley Hawkins is the catalyst, averaging 16.5 points and 6.2 assists per game. She dished out 20 points and seven assists in the latest win and recorded a 26-point, 8-assist performance earlier this month.
The visiting Waves (13-9) have alternated wins and losses over their last seven contests. They are fresh from a 90-63 victory over Seattle, powered by a 23-point effort from guard Elli Guiney. Guiney leads Pepperdine in scoring, averaging 16.1 points, and has been on a hot streak, scoring 18 or more in three of her last five outings.
Santa Clara won the first meeting this season 85-72 on Jan. 2. The Broncos’ balanced attack, featuring Delainey Miller and Ava Schmidt alongside Hawkins, presents a multifaceted challenge. Pepperdine will need a strong defensive effort and continued production from Guiney and supporting scorers like Bella Green to counter.
The matchup pits Santa Clara’s high-octane offense against a Pepperdine defense that allows just 64.3 points per game. Controlling the tempo will be critical for the Waves to pull off the road upset.
Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. PST on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026.
