Winless Niagara Faces Marist in MAAC Women’s Basketball Clash

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Interstat) — The Marist women’s basketball team looks to build on a recent home victory when it hosts a struggling Niagara squad on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup at McCann Recreation Center.

The Red Foxes (8-14, 4-5 MAAC) snapped a three-game skid with a 60-53 win over Canisius on Thursday. Guard Danielle Williamsen led the way with 15 points, four rebounds and five assists, continuing a strong stretch where she has averaged 11.1 points over her last nine games.

They will face a Purple Eagles team mired in a historically difficult season. Niagara (0-20, 0-9) is still searching for its first win after an 84-64 loss at Siena on Thursday. The Purple Eagles have lost their conference games by an average margin of 24.2 points.

A player to watch for Niagara is guard Kenedie Haruna, who scored a team-high 15 points in 21 minutes against Siena. She has been one of the team’s more consistent scoring threats in recent weeks.

Marist won the first meeting this season, 72-58, on Dec. 7 in Lewiston. Williamsen had 12 points and five assists in that contest.

The Red Foxes have found moderate success at home, going 5-5 in Poughkeepsie this season. Niagara is 0-9 in true road games.

Following this game, Marist will travel to face first-place Fairfield on Feb. 5. Niagara continues its road trip at Canisius on Feb. 3.

Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. Eastern.
