Hokies Pull Away Late, Defeat Panthers in ACC Women’s Basketball
BLACKSBURG, Va. (Interstat) — Virginia Tech used a strong fourth quarter to pull away from Pittsburgh for a 67-50 women’s basketball victory Thursday night at Cassell Coliseum.
The Hokies, improving to 17-5 overall, led 33-25 at halftime but saw the Panthers stay within reach through three quarters. A 20-point fourth quarter sealed the win for the home team before a crowd of 4,051.
Carleigh Wenzel led Virginia Tech with 17 points, while Carys Baker added 13. Kilah Freelon contributed 10 points and three blocked shots.
Pittsburgh, which fell to 8-15, was led by a balanced scoring effort but could not overcome Virginia Tech’s defensive pressure and late surge. The Panthers have lost three consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference games.
